Stan Michaelson, age 81 of Long Prairie passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30 at the Galeon in Osakis, MN. Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 3 at 11:00 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church in Osakis. Interment is at the Gordon Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Osakis. Visitation hours are from 4 - 7 pm on Friday evening at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis and one hour before the service on Saturday.
Life History for Stan
Stanley Gerhart Michaelson was born on April 4, 1935 in Pennock, MN to Joseph and Helen (Christians) Michaelson. He graduated from Hinkley High School in Hinkley, Illinois with the Class of 1954. On November 5, 1955 Stan married the love of his life, Glenda Niles at the Plano Baptist Church in Plano, IL. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War and then returned home and attended DeVry University for Electronics. In addition to doing some farming, Stan also worked as a machinist in Illinois before moving his family to Osakis, MN. During his years in the Osakis area, Stan worked for Withers Manufacturing of Osakis, Belanca Aircraft in Alexandria and helped do electrical work with Fischer Electric in Osakis. He and Glenda bought the Lakeland Motel in Osakis and owned and operated it until their retirement in 1998 when they moved to a home in rural Long Prairie.
In addition to his talents doing electrical work, Stan loved to try his hand at many other projects. He enjoyed working in his shop fabricating and inventing things and also enjoyed doing woodwork. He was a big football fan and loved to watch the games with his family and grandkids. Stan was a life time member of the Moose Lodge. He was a caring, hardworking and talented husband, father, grandpa and brother who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Glenda Michaelson of Long Prairie; two sons, Wayne Michaelson and Owen (Carol) Michaelson, all of Osakis; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Gustafson of Willmar and a sister, Dorothy Schnell of Fairfax, IA; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, a son, Aaron Michaelson in 1986, six siblings, Donald Brower, Edward G., Harry and John Gustafson, Irene Fortman and Elsie Schneck.
Funeral services for Stanley are on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Lindell Quam officiating. Musicians are organist, Vicki Hinrichs and soloists, Ron Berg and Dana Hetland. Interment is at the Gordon Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Osakis with pallbearers, Craig, Curtis and Joshua Michaelson, Bruce Wachowski, Justin Barnette and Alex Rutten. A luncheon will follow at the Osakis VFW Post #7902.
