Sylvester Botzet

Sylvester Botzet, age 85 of Osakis, MN went to meet his Lord on April 17, 2012 from his home in West Union Township, Todd Co., MN.
Sylvester Joseph Botzet was born in West Union Township, Todd County, MN to Joseph and Catherine (Pfau) Botzet on August 3, 1926. He attended the West Union public school and then graduated from Osakis High School with the class of 1944. He was the third generation to farm the Botzet family homestead farm. Syl also received his private pilot's license and flew for the Civil Air Patrol for many years, as well as for personal enjoyment. On August 16, 1961 Sylvester was united in marriage to Helen Warmka in Easton, MN. They were blessed with three children, two daughters and a son. Syl was a lifelong member of St. Alexius parish in West Union and also belonged to the St. Joseph Society and the St. Michael Council of the Knights of Columbus. In addition, Syl was on the Todd County Extension Committee and was a past president and former member of the Osakis Community Memorial Home Board. He was also instrumental in helping to start the West Union Country Kids 4-H Club.
Because of his love for nature and country life, Syl enjoyed spending his free time outdoors either fishing, gardening or agate hunting. He also had a nice collection of petrified wood that he found over the years. Each season Syl carefully tended his garden and enjoyed sharing its bounty with family, neighbors and friends. He was a gentle, kind and loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Blessed be his memory.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Helen Botzet of Osakis and his children; 6 grandchildren, Joshua (Alyssa Tucker, fiance') Meehl, Jordan and Pam Meehl, Tyler and Diana Schwichtenberg. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Jacob Botzet, a sister and brother-in-law, Bernadine & Milton Merdan; other brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann, Rita, Ed, Ken and Don.
A Mass of Resurrection was held for Sylvester on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 11:00 am at the St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union, MN with Fr. Andrew Marthaler and Fr. Luke Steiner officiating. Musicians were the church choir with organist, Julie Bottelberghe and soloist, Dana Hetland. Interment will be at the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Ken & Stephanie Kraemer and Syl's six grandchildren. Active bearers are Irvin Frie, Herb Marthaler, Jeff Deters, Andy Quistorff, Ray Marthaler and Dave Carlson.
