Thomas Beyer, age 80 of Osakis, formerly of N. Mpls, died June 22 at his home. A Celebration of Life for Tom will be held on Wed., June 27 from 4 - 7 pm at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis. Burial is Friday, June 29 at the Crystal Lake Cemetery in N. Mpls.
Thomas was born in Minneapolis, MN on August 10, 1937 to Paul and Florence (Priebe) Beyer. He served his country during the Korean War for three years, enlisting in 1954 and being honorably discharged in 1957. Tom was stationed with the US Army in Germany and received the Sharp Shooter and Good Conduct medals. He returned to live in Minneapolis and proposed to his sweetheart, LaVonne Anders. They married on July 5, 1958 in Minneapolis, MN. Tom began a lifelong career as a truck driver, first hired by Wholesale Bakery Co. He then drove over the road with Trans X and for Fairway Foods. Tom retired from trucking in 1999 and moved to a retirement home near Lake Osakis in 2010. He loving cared for his wife, Lavonne in her last years as she battled with MS. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family, especially enjoying time spent with his grandchildren. He loved to be outdoors, either hunting for deer or goose or going out on the lake and ice fishing during the winter months.
Tom is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy & Michael Kugel of Champlin; a stepson, Randy & Laurie Aswegan of Coon Rapids; 6 grandchildren and 17 great, grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, LaVonne Beyer; stepdaughter, Terri Olsen and brother, Charles Beyer.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Wednesday evening, June 27, 2018 from 4 – 7 pm at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN. A burial will take place on Friday, June 29 at the Crystal Lake Cemetery in North Minneapolis, MN.
