Violet Geerdes

Violet Geerdes, age 82, formerly of Richfield passed away on Wednesday evening, January 2, 2008 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN.
Violet Esther Erdahl was born on January 5, 1925 in Frost, MN to Selmer and Arvilla (Larson) Erdahl. She graduated from Frost High School and on July 21, 1942 was united in marriage to Henry Geerdes in Blue Earth, MN. After several moves, they made their home in Richfield, MN and raised a family of three daughters. She moved to Osakis, MN to the West View Assisted Living apartments in 2006. Violet was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Richfield.
Violet was a wonderful wife and mother who enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She was always willing to host dinner parties for her neighbors and friends. She was also an excellent card player and who enjoyed playing Bridge and marathon games of Five Hundred. Traveling was another hobby she enjoyed and over the years took many trips overseas. Violet was also an avid reader and kept current on national and local events by watching the FOX news channel. She loved her family and grandchildren dearly and also made it a point to stay close to her seven siblings. Violet was a woman who enjoyed life. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Violet is survived by her daughters, Patricia Hildebrandt of Osakis, Carole Hanschen of Minneapolis and Bonnie (John) Manthey of Maplewood; 4 grandchildren, Sheila Hanschen, Amy (Mike) Krohn, Curtis and Kellen Hildebrandt; a great grandchild due to be born in February; her brother, Burton (Solveig) Erdahl of Golden Valley; her four sisters, Charlotte Peterson of Leesburg, FL, Gelaine Cody of Buffalo Center, Shirley Sorenson of Albert Lea, Susan (Don) Faith of Boynton Beach, FL; her longtime friends, Doris Erichsrud, Mable Streeter and Ila Janisch.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law, John Hildebrandt and two brothers, Stuart and David Erdahl.
Memorial services were held for Violet on Saturday, January 5 (which would have been her 83 birthday) at 1:00 pm at the Hope Presbyterian Church in Richfield with Rev. Bruce Hillyer officiating. Musicians were Dana and Ginger Hetland. Inurnment was at the Acacia Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
Arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
