Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Calvert officiating. Burial is at the Terrace Lawn Memory Garden in Montevideo, MN. A gathering time will begin at the church on Saturday morning at 10:00 am.
Life History for Viona Lietz
Viona Lietz, age 89 of Osakis passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Chandler Regional Medical Center in Chandler, Arizona.
Viona was born on February 10, 1923 in Glasgow, Montana to Otto and Minnie (Mattwa) Tiechert. Vi moved with her family as a young girl to Minnesota and graduated from the Maynard High School in Maynard, MN. She was baptized on July 7, 1923 at the Havelock Lutheran Church and was confirmed on August 16, 1936 at the Grace Lutheran Church, both in Chippewa County, MN. One of her first employments was working at a bakery in Montevideo, MN. On April 26, 1944 Viona was united in marriage to Harry Lietz at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Benson, MN. They raised their family on a farm near Benson for several years and then relocated to farm near Deer Creek, MN. Vi found work at the Wadena Bakery and also at a Gambles Store in Wadena. In 1964, the Lietz family moved to Blaine and then later, Fridley, MN when Harry worked as an electrician. During this time, Vi worked at a bank. They moved to San Diego in 1977 and after a few years they returned in 1982 to live in Osakis, MN once their home there was built. After Harry retired in 1986, they enjoyed spending some winters in Texas.
Vi was a member of the Osakis Lutheran Church and volunteered there.
Besides working on various crocheting projects, Vi enjoyed playing cards and spending time cooking and canning. She loved traveling south to Texas and then after Harry's passing, she enjoyed going down to stay with her daughter and son-in-law in Arizona. She was a kind and caring mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Vi is survived by her daughter, Florence (Jerry) Grewe of Long Prairie; 3 grandchildren, Connie (Ronnie) Klinkhammer of Long Prairie, Sheri (Bylan) Lemke of Long Prairie and Troy (Holly) Grewe of Shakopee; 6 great grandchildren, Jay (Kira) Klinkhammer, Melisa Klinkhammer, Molly and Alex Lemke, Chase Lietz and Colt Grewe; a sister, Violet Thomasson of Marshall, MN.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry in 2006, a son, Wayne Lietz, 2 grandsons, Bryan and Steven Lietz; 3 brothers, Melvin, Vernon and Bennie Tiechert.
Funeral services for Vi will be held on Saturday, November 24 at 11:00 am at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Calvert officiating. Interment is at the Terrace Lawn Memory Garden in Montevideo, MN. Honorary bearers are her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Active casketbearers are Troy Grewe, Bylan and Alex Lemke, Ron and Jay Klinkhammer and Dennis Collins. There will be a visitation beginning at the church on Saturday morning at 10:00 am.
Arrangements are being handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, MN.
