Virginia “Ginny” Hoffman Sorenson was born on March 3, 1939, in Templeton, Iowa the daughter of Bill and Louise Eich. The family moved to Roselle, Iowa and then to Blooming Prairie, MN when Ginny was a Sophomore in High School. She graduated from Hayfield High School in 1957.
After her graduation she worked at the Mayo Clinic until she married Dale Hoffman. To this union five children were born: Brenda, Bret, Kent, Alan, and Dean. The family moved several times due to Dale’s job and later on started their own business Hoffman’s Inc. where Ginny was his secretary. During this time they moved to Shakopee, MN but spent many weekends in Osakis. Which prompted them to buy a resort. They called it Hoffman’s Hide-a-way which Ginny managed.
After Dale’s untimely death in 1985, Ginny decided to make Osakis her home. She enjoyed traveling with friends, gardening, reading, playing cards, dancing, watching game shows and wintering in Texas. Ginny’s love of God and faith were of high importance to her. She was very dedicated her entire life to the church and community of Osakis and Shakopee.
In 2011 she married Ron Sorenson and was blessed with two step-daughters: Julie (Scott) Bany, Tracy (Erin) Cunningham.
Ginny died on Friday, January 31, 2025 from ALS. She is survived by husband, Ron Sorenson; sons: Bret Hoffman, Dean (Robin) Hoffman; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, daughter-in-laws: Teresa Hoffman, Kim Hoffman; son-in-law, Dan Callahan; step-daughter: Tracy (Erin) Cunningham; brothers Dennis & Lynn (Mary) Eich; sisters: Darlene (Bill) Timmerman, LuAnn (Jim) Hahn. She was preceded in death by: spouse, Dale Hoffman; sons: Kent & Alan Hoffman; daughter: Brenda Callahan; sister, Sandra Johnson; brothers: Gene & Lavern Eich; and step-daughter, Julie Sorenson Bany.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at the church. A Celebration of Life will also be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the Pullman Club in Shakopee 124 West 1st Ave. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Shakopee.
