Life History for Walter Barlau
Walter Barlau, age 83 of Sauk Centre, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008 at the St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, MN.
Walter Emil Barlau was born on August 8, 1925 in Montrose, MN to Otto and Martha (Lemke) Barlau. On June 17, 1951 he was united in marriage to LuVern Drawert in Howard Lake, MN. They did dairy farming on their family farm for many years until retiring in 1978 and moving to a home on Sauk Lake in rural Sauk Centre.
Walter was a member of the NFO, the Lake Ida School Board and also served twelve years on the Woodland Township Board. Upon moving to Sauk Centre, Walter became a member of Zion Lutheran Church and served on the church board for three years.
Hunting and fishing were some of Walter's favorite past times. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed seeing nature up close. During the winter months he kept busy meeting with his family and friends for cards. He especially enjoyed playing poker, black jack and hand and foot.
Walter is survived by his children, Bradley (Michelle) Barlau of Rosemont, MN, Kathy (Michael) Main of Howard Lake, MN, Lori (Tom) Fletcher of Sauk Centre, Bruce (Jane) Barlau of Albany; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lorena (Gerhard) Henning of Michigan and Lila (Benjamin) Qudas of Mayer, MN; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, LuVern, grandson, Tanner Barlau, a brother, Hubert Barlau and a sister, Edna Mielke.
Memorial services will be held for Walter on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 10:30 am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre, MN with Rev. Marty Porter officiating. Organist is Arlene Anderson and lunch will be provided by the church women in the fellowship hall following the services.
Interment is at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre, MN.
