Life History for Wayne Planting
Wayne Charles Planting, age 72 of Osakis, formerly of Belle Plaine passed away suddenly on August 29, 2010.
Wayne was born on February 19, 1938 to John and Myra (Steinbeck) Planting in Cylinder, Iowa. His family later moved to the East Chain, Minnesota area and he graduated from East Chain High School in 1956. He began working for King Gas in Blue Earth in 1959 and in 1966 started working for Minnesota Valley Natural Gas in Belle Plaine. He continued working for the gas company until his retirement in 2000, when it was known as CenterPoint Energy.
Wayne married Margaret 'Peggy' Krahmer in 1960 and together they had three children, Greg (Kathy), Denise and Gary (Susan). He married Hazel Mueller in 1979 and her two children, Cyndy (Bruce) Edblom and Jeff (Barbra) Mueller, became part of his family. He was a member of the Belle Plaine Fire Department from 1970 until 1985.
Wayne was an easy man to like. He loved fishing, gardening, softball, bowling and bow hunting. He was an all around sports fan who especially liked basketball. Wayne also enjoyed attending auctions and garage sales and most of all enjoyed his home in Osakis. He was generous, patient, humerous and steadfast. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Planting of Osakis; children, Greg (Kathy) Planting of Clouquet, Denise Planting of St. Cloud, Gary (Susan) Planting of Minnetonka, Cyndy (Bruce) Edblom of Sauk Centre and Jeff (Barbra) Mueller of Mounds, OK; grandchildren, Nicholas (Shizuka) and Kelly Planting, Amanda & Adam Planting, Ryan, Justin (Louise) and Matt Planting, Thomas (Cindy) Edblom and Crystal (Joshua) Smith, Mackenzie and Sasha Mueller; two great grandchildren, Marshall & Madeline Planting; brothers, John, Lyle (Marlene) and Don (Julie) Planting; sisters, Naomi (Norman) Schmidt, Janice (John) Graham, Sue (Wallace) Fink and Peggy (Thomas) Newville; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra (Donald) Stocker and brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert (Patricia) Barlage; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy in 1977, his parents and a sister-in-law, Darlene Planting.
