William Miller

William Miller, age 78 of Osakis passed away on December 9, 2006 at the Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home in Long Prairie, MN.
William George Miller was born on January 8, 1928 in Minneapolis to William and Myrtle (Coogan) Miller. He graduated from De LaSalle High School in Minneapolis and attended one year of college at the U of M when he was called to serve his country during WWII. He achieved the rank of Corporal in the United States Marine Corp. and received the WWII Victory Medal when he was honorably discharged in 195l. He and his wife, Gloria raised their four children while Bill worked as an independent carpet representative. After Gloria's death in 1986, Bill married Sharon Dornquast in 1987. They moved to a home on Lake Osakis where Bill really enjoyed living by the lake. He was a member of the Minnesota Floor Covering Association, the Osakis Sportsman's Club and was a past president of the Osakis Lake Association. He loved nature and being outdoors. Watching the birds and wildlife from his lake home window brought him hours of enjoyment. Bill also loved to go out on the lake fishing, in addition to playing cards and watching football.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon Lee Miller of Osakis; his children, Joan Vandenheuvel of Mora, Barbara Miller (Kim Hoiem) of Bruno, William (Corlyn) Miller, Jr. of Ham Lake, Kathleen (Joseph 'Spike') Flint of Minneapolis; 5 granddaughters; 2 great granddaughters; a brother, John Miller of Minneapolis; a sister-in-law, Barbara Miller of Columbia Heights; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Gloria, a brother, Dave Miller and two sisters, Virginia Nelson and Shirley Brown.
Funeral services were held for Bill on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 3:00 pm at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Chapel in Osakis with Fr. Dick McGuire officiating. Committal services will be held on Wednesday, December 13 at 12:45 pm at Fr. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
